Super Mega Final Blog

Middle Ages. I learned a lot about the Middle Ages from Father John because he talked a lot about the crusades and more precise stuff. I learnt a lot about normal day life from the activities online, like the jobs they performed and how they lived. I didn't learn much from the infomercial, but it was a fun way of doing it. And even though Father John's presentation taught me the most, it would be boring to do that everyday. Renaissance. I didn't really like the video because it was annoyingly catchy, but it did list some good people from the Renaissance. The Vook taught me a lot more and its format was really good too, but I feel like the assignment was a little rushed. Class Review. This class was very different from the other classes I have experienced. It was more laid back and gave us more options on how to do assignments. There were a few bumps in the road, but, overall, I think it's been a good semester.

RAFT

I thought the RAFT was better than our Ancient Civilization project because it gave us more space creatively. Some of the presentations were kinda boring, though. They could've used more . . . well, I don't know how to put it. The intangible. I think I'm just sick of the "stand-up-present-and-have-a-power-point" presentation. I liked Carlie's format because it was different from the status quo. It was also very informative. The overall concept of RAFT, though, I didn't quite understand. It just seemed like doing a presentation with a different name on it. It didn't really help. I think the subject matter could have been controlled a bit more, because a lot of people did fashion, and there were so many things we could've covered. Anyway, this wasn't the worst presentation we've had, but it could've been better.

Games In Education

I didn't play the game, but from what I heard, it wasn't fun. Games are good in education, though, because they are informing and they get kids involved. So. . . more games.

Ancient Civilization

Through this project, I learnt some stuff about the Aztecs. Some not really important, other stuff I'll forget pretty soon. Either way, this was a good project because it taught me how to edit, how to film, how to judge due dates properly, and how to work with others. The actual things I learnt about the Aztecs, though, were trivial. Overall, I didn't learn a lot through this project, but it was ok.

Kony 2012

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4MnpzG5Sqc <--- Kony 2012 video

The video is very touching, but stuff like this has been happening for decades. It is really sad that this stuff is happening, and I would like to stop it, but I think our money could be going towards our Own countries problems such as poverty and child hunger. We have a great life in Canada, but I think people think it's better than it really is. We should solve our own problems beofre we solve other's problems. We still should donate some money to the cause to find Kony, but we shouldn't send any troops there and we should be more concious of our own problems.

Assignments

There currently has been a lot of controversy over the number of assignments, and even though I do not completely agree with my class mates, I do believe there are too many assignments. The excuses some of my classmates are making sound a little atrocious. Either way, I think we should have less assignments with greater marks. We have too many sites and it has become confusing. Also, while I am on this topic, I think Mr. Vendramin doesn't have complete control of the class and that is a HUGE problem. The whole thing is partially to blame the teacher, for too many assignments, and for the students, for being too lazy and then making up excuses when they don't have the work done. It's outrageous! The class is becoming confusing and the students are getting out of control; and it's not good that this is happening the first day the interns are here.

DHMO

Everything I found on the site I knew already, because DHMO is water. It's a big hoax.

Geological Time Activities

I think the geological time activity was a total gong show.  There were kids running around everywhere, it was too loud, and, in my opinion, the video portion was completely irrelevant to the assignment.  And it was extremely loud.  Also, the QR codes - even though they were pretty cool - they seemed unnecessary; I could figure out the order of events just by looking at the events given for pictures. Dipity took too long to load and it was a little confusing. The whole assignment was a complete disaster.

Does God Exist?

It's a question we all ponder in our life at some point. Is there a greater power? How could we have been made from nothing? Does God exist? I think most people believe in, at least, some kind of God. It gives them a sense of security. A sense of . . . irresponsibility, as if to think Oh, I don't need to fix global warming. God will take care of it. Or Ask and I shall recieve. Even though most people don't do what God asks of them. Anyways, back to God's existence. Today, I look around and I see disaster everywhere. Poverty, war, terrorism; it makes you want to think that God does not exist. But i also see what I have around me. A home, family, friends, a good education, the list goes on. It makes you want to think that, in fact, God exists. I have come to the conclusion that we have no possible way of knowing that God exists or not, but i do think that there is someone, or something, that helps us out when we need it. Also, though, there is an . . . Anti-God (Devil, Satan, call him whatever you want), that makes my belief in God even greater. Or, perhaps without thought of a devil I wouldn't believe in God at all. Anyway, I'm not sure if I fully believe in God - maybe someday I will - but I do believe there is someone looking out for us.

School Dress Code

I think the school dress code is completely resonable. It does not mean that I agree with the restrictions, but I think it is fair. I think it makes good sense that the school is limiting us to what we should wear because this is still a Catholic school and every student should reflect that. It's also so the school can use their power to keep the school under control, which they should, but not to the point where we have to wear a uniform and feel like prisoners. In conclusion, I think the school dress code is perfect the way it is right now.

What Social Studies Means To Me

Social Studies doesn't mean a lot to me. It's just another boring class in the boring day of school. But I do believe there is something to learn in this class. Then again, there is almost something to learn in every situation. But I still think that I could learn some vauable things that could help me later in life. I am more interested in learning very old history (such as Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome) than learning political science, but I think political science would be more vabuable later on in life. I am also interested in learning studies such as psychology and sociology because I haven't been exposed to them very much. All in all, I am looking forward to this Social class this year and am happy to have you as a teacher, beacuse we will be incorporated with technology and you let us speack our minds openly.
